In 2010 the European Union has reaffirmed earlier findings that Bio-methane used in transport can fulfill one third of the EU’s2020 targets for renewable energy. A report from the technical committee on transport in feb 2011 has said the EU should move transport from 1.4 million vehicles to 15 million vehicles powered by biomethane by 2020. They describe Biomethane as a complimentary fuel and one very suited to commercial vehicle use along with the fact that it is the cleanest commercially available fuel to date.
The benefits are clear. Vehicles such as the Vw passat running on Biomethane emit only 20 g/km and so excel in comparison to Petrol and Diesel. Perhaps just as importantly Biomethane has over 20% savings on diesel and greater on petrol.
Egg Fuels proposes to provide a network of BNG filling points for commercial customers without which Ireland runs the risk of being left behind in the new transport era for the 21st century.
Egg Fuels is the brainchild of Scott Jones, an accomplished engineer with large-scale project management experience. His reputation stems from international contracts with the UN and more locally, Bus Eireann. Scott was initially engaged by Bord Gais Network in 2008 to researchthe viability of using CNG/BNG as a transport fuel. The research served as the catalyst for the foundation of Egg fuels with UK specialists that have successful practical experience in this new energy sector. Scott has recently been appointed country representative for Ireland with the NGVA in Brussels.
Early adaption by interests across Europe and beyond indicates a successful future for Egg Fuels in Ireland. The UK has now driven ahead with this technology and implementing this new fuel in commercial fleets after successful trials over the last number of years. Tesco and Coca Cola have recently bought 25 vehicles running on this fuel. UK breweries are also planning to follow suit. Over the last 10 years 1.3 million commercial vehicles have made the switch to CNG/BNG in Europe with an excess of 11 million worldwide. (NGVA Europe). This fuel is one of the fastest growing alternative fuels today.
“We as a company plan to use all avenues available to promote this fuel and believe the price advantage over diesel and petrol which will play a key part to the success of this project,” Scott Fletcher Jones.
Egg Fuels will as a result of this enterprise increase energy security, create Irish jobs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions—and significantly lower transport costs for consumers and bring real commercially successful technology to these shores.
